STEP 1:
Are you the only person having the problem, or are many people having the same problem? Check with your roommate and other people in
the building. If many students have the same errors, then perhaps the problem is with the Internet server--a problem you cannot fix.
However, if most students are able to connect, then continue with the next step.
STEP 2:
Check to see if you are properly
connected to the network. To do this, run the command prompt utility by
clicking the [Start] button and choosing [Run]. Type in "command"
(without the parentheses) and press the [OK] button. A black box
should open. Type in "ipconfig /release" and press [Enter]. Wait a
few seconds until you see the message "IP Address successfully
released...". Then type in "ipconfig /renew" and press [Enter].
Wait a few seconds until you see a list of numerical addresses.
STEP 3:
A new IP Address should be displayed, beginning with 10.100. If this is not
the case, there is something wrong with your network software or hardware setup. Please
refer to the
Getting Started page for more information.
STEP 4:
If this does not solve your problem,
contact a ResNet technician at x8585 for further assistance.
