Setting up the Network Software

WinVista = Windows Vista

STEP 1: Click the [START] button and select [Control Panel].

 

STEP 2a: In the Control Panel Home, click on "View network status and tasks" (Step 2a). If you are instead in Classic View look for the [Network and Sharing Center] button (Step 2b) and double-click on it.

 

STEP 2b:

 

STEP 3: Click on "Manage network connections".

 

STEP 4: In the Network Connections window, right-click the [Local Area Connection] and choose [Properties]. A prompt may come up saying "Windows needs your permission to continue". Click on the [Continue] button.

 

STEP 5: From the "Local Area Connection Properties" window, highlight the "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" component and click the [Properties] button.

STEP 6: In the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties" window, verify that the "Obtain an IP address automatically" is selected and that "Obtain DNS server address automatically" is selected.  Once you are done, click the [OK] button.

 

STEP 7: You will return to the "Local Area Connection Properties" window. Click the [OK] button. If you are prompted to restart the computer, do so.
