Installing an Ethernet Card


Select Your Computer Type

   WinXP/Vista = PC Compatible
     MacOS = Macintosh

WinXP/Vista = PC Compatible Setup

STEP 1: Make sure the rest of your computer is working properly and that you are not getting any network error messages. Turn on your computer, check for error messages, and then turn off your computer.

STEP 2: Install your Ethernet card by consulting the documentation that come with the card.

STEP 3: With a desktop or tower computer, examine the picture below for reference.

Remove the cover of the expansion slot by unscrewing and sliding out.

A) Removal of expansion slot cover.

     Insert the network card so that it is seated firmly in the slot, then insert screw to secure.

B) Insertion of network card.

STEP 4: With a laptop computer, plug in your PCMCIA card into the PCMCIA slot. Again, examine the picture below for reference.

Find the PMCIA slot on the side of the laptop, and insert the card into it.

MacOS = Macintosh Setup

All Macintosh systems come with Ethernet cards preinstalled. Further information can be obtained by consulting your system documentation.
