If your computer came with an Ethernet card preinstalled or you have
previously installed it, skip to Installing an Ethernet
Cable. If you are sure that you DO NOT have an Ethernet card installed in your computer,
skip to Installing an Ethernet Card.
STEP 1: From the [Start Menu],
right click on My Computer and select [Properties].

STEP 2:
In this window, open the [Hardware] tab and then click [Device Manager].

STEP 3: If there is an entry for Network Adaptors, click the plus
[+] sign next to it; this will expand the list. If you already have an
Ethernet card installed, you should see an item listed OTHER THAN
"Dialup Adapter" or "AOL Adaptor". You should see
the brand name of the adapter that you have in your system, such as 3com,
NetGear, or Xircom.

If you see that you have a Ethernet card installed, skip to
Installing an Ethernet Cable. Otherwise,
continue with Installing an Ethernet Card.
